Success Stories
At best I would have described myself as an 'infrequent' exerciser. After turning 30 and becoming a father I figured it was about time to start actually taking care of my self. Prior to Survivor the extent of my exercise routine was the annual Sun Run. It always ended up being more of a walk than a run and I always felt awful after trying to jog any part of it.
The results speak for themselves; so far I've lost about 20 lbs., put on a bunch of muscle, am far stronger than I was, and have a whole lot more energy. The running component isn't excessive which is great because I'm still not a fan of running.
I never thought I would be able to get up for a 6 am workout 5 days a week. Now I'm often up before the alarm clock goes off and am raring to go. I have now been a regular participant since August of 2006. Survivor Bootcamp has motivated me to achieve my fitness goals on a number of levels. Rea in Port Moody is my leader and her attention to the exercise fundamentals has made a number of us bootcampers sign-up for multiple sessions. Thanks Rea!

I'm loving boot camp! Far more than I could have ever imagined. I signed up knowing it was going to be outside my comfort zone and horribly unpleasant. But it's fun! Really fun, like recess or grade-school phys-ed (where the other kids don't laugh at me) ... & Janine is great, as promised.

"I am 45 years old now, and in the past, I used to work out quite regularly, but fell off my program a few years ago. During this time, I had gained weight (about 30 pounds), lost muscle tone and become quite flabby. I also struggle with a musculoskeletal condition, so being out of shape was not helping the overall pain and fatigue issues that are symptoms of it.
The boot camp environment was motivating me to do my personal best, to not get discouraged and to keep committed to the process. Within 3 weeks, I was feeling much better, had lost noticeable weight (inches) and was psyched to keep going. At that point I registered for a second month of boot camp!
After the first month, I saw considerable improvements to my shape, and fitness level. People around me were mentioning how good I was looking too! It was so encouraging!!
After the second month of boot camp, I had trimmed down, firmed up and felt motivated to keep on exercising. As of finishing boot camp, I've been exercising an average of 3 times per week, mostly running, but some weight-bearing exercises as well.
What contributed to my success, was signing up for this amazing program and the great assortment of exercises that were coached to us by a fun and motivating leader. I committed to the 6AM class and went every day for two months! I did not miss one class and was always on time! It was very hard for me at the beginning, but after the 3rd week, I found my body was starting to cooperate, as it was remembering when it used to work out before. I plan to work on my own fitness program for as long as I can, and will be signing up for additional boot camp classes in order to get a benchmark of my fitness level and to challenge myself to do better!

What a great experience Dale and I had at Survivor BootCamp. Although we are both fairly motivated to work out regularly this added some variety to our routine as well as being loads of fun. Our instructor Cherie was a great coach with the knowledge to train us properly and of course push us a little harder. Just 10 more - right Liz and Phil. Working out at 6am by the water - what could be better than that. The people in our group were fantastic. This is a great way to kick start a new exercise routine. We highly recommend it!

I don't know what I would have done without this great group. It was a great place for a work out.

Something that really hit home with me was the emphasis on correct execution of the exercises. That first week was vital to the program...if you don't do the exercises correctly, you don't see the results. The program has been great in relieving back pain that was almost constant. I used to wake up every morning with pain (to the point I almost got used to it), but after a few days of proper stretching and core workouts, I wake up without pain. Thanks again, for your support and encouragement! I'll be back!.

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed my experience with Survivor Bootcamp and that my leader was exceptionally motivating, encouraging and entertaining. He has a great ability to teach and certainly knows his stuff well enough to make it a diverse and interesting workout. Thank you to all of you at Survivor Bootcamp and a special thanks to my leader!

My best losses: 1.5" of my abdomen & 1" off each thigh. Best gains: 60% gain in push-ups (25 to 40). 30% increase in sit-up/crunches (61 to 79). Also of honorable mention: I shaved almost 30seconds off my 1km run time! In only 4 weeks I accomplished all my fitness goals. Boot Camp is a challenge no matter what level of fitness you're at. I found my trainer to be the Boot Camp "Yoda": providing us with guidance and encouraging us to our potential (without getting in our face and yelling at us). Another perk was that for every morning I participated, I slept like a baby that night.

I signed up for Boot Camp hoping to 'kick-start' my fitness, and hopefully to lose some unwanted inches. And that's exactly what I got! The instructor was great, I was able to work out at my own pace, but found I was able to keep up quite quickly. I was amazed how fast I saw an improvement in my strength and endurance! I'm really thrilled with the results after four weeks -I lost a total of 16 1/4 inches! More importantly, now I feel motivated to keep up my fitness routine. It really was a great experience!
– Valerie, Burnaby

I am astounded at the results I have gotten in the class. I started this class at 175lbs and at a size 11. Whew! I have been going 5 days aweek and in 4 weeks I lost a total of 12", 10 pounds and dropped to a size 9. In only a month the changes to body were absolutely amazing and I couldn't be more proud. I have found a fitness program that works and believe it or not I can't wait till bikini season!!!

When my cousin first suggested joining Survivor BootCamp, I thought two things; first, there was no way I could commit to 5 days a week; second, there was no way I would be able to get up that early.
But I decided to give it a try. What did I have to lose except fat and laziness? Surprisingly, it only took a few days before I got into my morning routine. Our trainer, was extremely motivational while making working out fun. One exercise in particular, the front and side arm raises, was so difficult for me that I could not even get through 1 set, let alone the 3 that everyone else was doing. But Jamie kept encouraging me to try as hard as I could and during the final class, I was able to do all 3 sets! By the end of the 4-week session, I had drastically improved my abdomen strength, my upper body strength, as well as my endurance and speed. I was amazed that I could improve my overall fitness and tone my body in such a short period of time.

At the beginning of bootcamp I didn't think I could get up at 5:15 to get there. I was surprised to be motivated by everyone and have bonded much more with my sister who came with me.

I thought I would never be able to run or do such strenuous exercise ever again after I hurt my back about 5 years ago. So it is a huge HUGE thing for me to be able to go to these classes and feel good physically and mentally. THANK YOU!!!! I really appreciate you guys! I have now turned my life around in such a short time and gave me hope for a happier, more active future! You have no idea how much that means to me.
– Laura and Marci, Vancouver
Since the beginning I have been extremely impressed with the whole organization and the steps you have taken to make my experience a positive one. The registration, the instructor, the program was exceptional! This is the only exercise routine that I have managed to stick with in so many years that I don't even like to count, and that I actually look forward to going to every morning. Don't get me wrong, its hard work, and there have been mornings where I've just wanted to sleep in, but the program and the people motivate me to get out of bed every morning, and I haven't regretted it. I know that I have made a huge difference personally, and can feel a difference physically. That is what counts!
– Nicole, Port Moody
I joined Survivor BootCamp not knowing exactly what to expect. Quite honestly I was a little scared! I am a former dance teacher, and mother of two and have a gym membership.
When I joined Survivor BootCamp I could run only 1/3 of the 1km run. At the end of my first month I cut 50 seconds off of my time, and was able to run the full 1km. I'd also lost 10 inches, and 5lbs. My clothes fit better, I felt great and the energy I have throughout the day is amazing!
I am now starting my fourth month, and am still noticing huge results in my strength and endurance, and I owe it all to my fabulous trainers!
They are truly amazing, motivational, inspirational people who make group fitness fun! oh and of course to myself, for my hard work at achieving my own goals! Cheers guys!"

Boot Camp is about looking great and feeling great. The instruction is highly personalized, and students are motivated to do their very best and challenged to push their limits. It's a fun and supportive environment for people of all fitness levels. I'd highly recommend Survivor Boot Camp as a fabulous way to lose fat, gain muscle and make new friends. It's worked for me!
– Dianna, Tri-Cities
I have to admit I was skeptical at first, but hard work really does pay off. I now completely believe you get out what you put in. But still, I didn't think that I would have the results that I did in such a short time. Although it was challenging it was still loads of fun! And as a result I am more interested in being active and keeping fit. I could never consider going to a gym five days a week so the appeal of being outside in the fresh air at Rocky Point made the commitment easier. The time flew by and thanks to Boot Camp, I am on now my way to being stronger and healthier than I ever imagined! I'm was quite proud of myself, but now need to tackle the next challenge of keeping it up!!! Jacquie is running on her own tonight! Yikes.

No photo for Mike but a very funny story!
The Day the Piano let go!
I was active through most of my adult life, however, career changes and children, the usual life progressions resulted in less and less time devoted to staying in shape. I was, however, able to maintain my active eating habits through the inactive times. Unbeknownst to me, those eating habits were resulting in an undetected growth. Then one day I saw it. I was going up the stairs at work, turning on a landing when I caught a glimpse of it. It was black and shadowy; I had a piano tied to my ass. Closer inspection revealed it to be a full sized grand; this explained the huffing and puffing between floors, the need for bigger and bigger belts. Later that day I was coming out of the cafeteria with my HoHo and Ding Dong’s in hand, when I tripped and began to fall. It all happened so fast, there was no time to stop, the piano hit me and pinned me face first into the bulletin board. And there before my eyes was the answer: A Survivor Boot camp poster. From my angle I was able to see the fine print: Separation services provided, free yourself today of those unwanted pianos, anchors, etc. So I signed up. After week one and two, I wasn’t so sure that I would ever be free, but coming into the third week, the runs around the track started getting easier. By the end of week three a trail run with a sharp corner allowed me to catch a glimpse of the piano, and it appeared to have shrunk. Then on the last day, at the end of week four, when we were doing our final timed run, I felt a snap. The piano had broken free. I was able to pull head and keep it at bay, but to be sure it doesn’t catch me again, I am coming back or another four weeks. If you have a piano tied to your ass like I did, I recommend taking the 4 week separation program!
